PORT HURON, Mich. - Award-winning service now meets award-winning Team Members. DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron Team Members were recognized this week at the 2017 Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on Tourism, Stars of the Industry dinner, bringing home the RD Hotelier of the Year and 2017 Student Star of the Year awards.

John Kuithe, general manager, at DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron received the RD Musser Hotelier of the Year award from the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association.

This award is for "a visionary owner or general manager who has maintained the highest standard of innkeeping over the expanse of their career. An innovator who has continually sought to surpass expectations by mentoring rising associate stars and developing new practices which positively impact experience." RD Musser was the face of the Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island for more than 60 years, and his attention to detail was seen throughout the property. RD Musser and his family have owned and operated the Grand Hotel for more than three generations and have set a standard for gracious hospitality in our industry.

Kuithe takes great pride in ensuring that all Team Members stay motivated to the highest level, and that guests have a remarkable stay in Port Huron.  Kuithe's passion for this community is inspiring as he helped prepare tins of the brand's signature DoubleTree Cookies and personalized thank you letters for every police officer and fire fighter in Port Huron over the holiday season. Kuithe prides himself on hiring local and having a positive impact in the Blue Water area, all while believing in each of his team members to be the best possible employee while taking care of guests.

Keegan Gallagher, front office supervisor, was chosen as the 2017 Student Star of the Year. Gallagher is pursuing his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Walsh College of Accountancy and Business, while working full time at DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron. Gallagher's leadership has been instrumental in the success of the front office team. He plays a key role in enrolling new Hilton Honors members, which creates a loyalty with the Hilton brand and the hotel, in addition to delivering excellent service to all guests.

This is the third consecutive year a Team Member from DoubleTree by Hilton Port Huron has been recognized at the annual Stars of the Industry Award dinner. In 2015, the director of sales at DoubleTree by Hilton, Samantha Cuppen, was recognized as the Sales & Marketing Star; while in 2016, the property's director of engineering, Jim Young, was recognized as the Operations Star of the Year.
