Hilton Worldwide Announces First DoubleTree by Hilton for Tunisian Capital
Tunis, TUNISIA & McLean, Va. - Hilton Worldwide's President and CEO Chris Nassetta today joined U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker and Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi in Washington, to announce the signing of a franchise agreement with El Mouradi Hotels & Resorts Group. The agreement will see the El Mouradi Africa Hotel re-branded to become DoubleTree by Hilton Tunis - Africa.
A full refurbishment of the hotel's public areas and 212 guest rooms and suites will begin in summer 2015, with an investment of more than $5M. The property will then join DoubleTree's portfolio which consists of more than 415 DoubleTree by Hilton locations in 35 countries around the world.
"Hilton first opened a hotel in Tunisia fifty years ago, extending our world-renowned hospitality to travellers from far and wide," said Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development, Europe and Africa for Hilton Worldwide. "As we near 20,000 rooms either trading or under development across Africa, we are delighted to be returning to this vibrant capital city, amid growing confidence in Tunisia's economic development which is seeing strong year-on-year growth."
Located in a prime position on the Avenue Habib Bourguiba, which is regarded as the business and government heartland of Tunisia, DoubleTree by Hilton Tunis - Africa will open in the tallest building in the country, offering five restaurant and bar options; as well as a fitness centre and 24-hour business centre. Tunis Carthage Airport (TUN) is approximately eight kilometres away- allowing for easy and fast connection to and from the hotel.

Tourism is a significant contributor to the Tunisian economy, with hospitality featuring as one of the most important sectors. DoubleTree by Hilton Tunis - Africa will be the perfect outpost for visits to the historic city. Extensive meetings and events space of more than 1,400 square metres, across 14 separate meeting rooms, will provide flexible options for organizers of both business and social functions - with a large ballroom of more than 400 square metres.
