Oct 28, 2013Team members from DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok celebrate second annual Hilton Worldwide Global Week of Service

Local Volunteers Join Thousands of Team Members Across 90 Countries and Territories by Serving Ark International

BANGKOK, Thailand - In celebration of Hilton Worldwide's second annual Global Week of Service, October 6 - 12, more than 20 volunteers from DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok partnered with the not-for-profit organization Ark International, to offer a group of 33 disadvantaged children a glimpse of hotel operations through fun games and activities in different departments. Community service is a tradition embedded in Hilton Worldwide's culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across ten distinct brands and 4,000 properties.  DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok's efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide's week-long celebration of the company's commitment to serving the communities where we live, work and travel, which this year includes hundreds of hands-on service projects globally.

The Children were guided through a tour of DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok and Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, and encountered "Hotel Experience Learning Stations". The Housekeeping station taught them towel origami, or how to fold towels into the shape of animals. Meanwhile, chefs showed them how to bake cupcakes, while food and beverage team members offered mocktail mixing sessions. This Global Week of Service project marks the first of several collaborations with Ark International, an organization defending the rights of children at risk. "The DoubleTree by Hilton team is making a great effort to provide real opportunities for disadvantaged children.  Corporate responsibility is most effective when these partnerships create a platform for kids to not only dream but have actual and equal prospects for a sustainable future.  "The DoubleTree by Hilton team is so warm, positive and welcoming to our children," said Nicole Fakaua, Director of Ark International.  "We are thrilled about the partnership and we look forward to seeing it bloom in very positive ways for our kids." said Fakaua

"We are delighted to inspire children for meaningful hospitality careers in celebration of Hilton Worldwide's Global Week of Service.  The hotel's team members have created this experience for the kids in order to instill knowledge and opportunities for their personal growth as they get older," said Chris Ehmann, general manager- DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide's largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide's corporate offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company's connections with its communities and bringing it closer together as a global team. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide's commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 1,200 service projects.
